Real life happens

What did I do wrong?

I am 62 years old and planned on retiring at 65. I have always been structured and have had a financial plan in place for years. However, I didn't understand how my friends were able to retire early, take extravagant vacations and buy luxury cars. After years of saving and planning, I felt I was losing ground and getting left behind financially. I couldn't keep up. I was frightened and overwhelmed and afraid to admit I might not have done enough along the way. Then I met the team at Brandon Grace. They were able to look at my situation with a fresh set of eyes. They helped me to see what I have done right and also where I still have some opportunities to close the gaps to prepare for the future. However, it wasn't just the financial pieces they helped me to put together. They also helped me to understand some life lessons along the way. I now understand that not everyone is able to sustain the lifestyle they have created. People have debt. People are leveraged. People exaggerate. People take risks and some get lucky. People lose bets and rarely tell those stories, but they will usually tell you about the wins. On the flip side, people also inherit money, they may have gotten bonuses or stock options along the way. They may not have paid off their home or put kids through college. They might not have children at all. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter what they have or what they are doing. I can only control what I have and what I am doing. I just need to know about my own plan, my own course of action and my steps along the way. After working on my design, I know what my future may look like - and if I have to pivot along the way, I know I have a team prepared to help me do that.
